Courtwarming... bonfire?
Courtwarming- ahh courtwarming. For those who don't know, or live under a rock, Courtwarming is the bastard step-child of Homecoming, a sad excuse for the basket ball fanatics out there who dare to claim it's better than football. Really now- we all know the superior sport, don't we?
Either way, the schools for the past week, pre-school and up have been busy in preparation, horrible skit competitions as well as hall decorations, claiming this- 2010 was the best year to be alive. Heck, they even had spirit week where students cross dressed, acted like cartoon shows and showed 'school spirit' by wearing all red and yellow.(Go Beavers!) Now- Friday night it was clear that the Junior class had won the competitions and that the Fighting Beavers were going to trample and trump the Mighty Cougars, after of course- the bonfire.
This fire, (which was made up of old school desk and donated lumber) sat in the middle of the old parking lot and had started about four in the afternoon. The couch had cheered on his teem and the cheerleaders lead their chants. Now it was more of a socializing factor- the local bar having donated hot chocolate and the grocery market the required marshmellows. Since Mayfield is well... Mayfield- the entire town was present, the kiddies closer to the fire, the adults further way where, once out of sight of their old principle, they sipped on their beers.
A tradition is a tradition after all, even for those who've never had it before.
